PRESIDENT

I would like to start off by welcoming you to the 2007-2008 academic year!

Post-secondary education is not only about academics, but also about the wealth of experiences and opportunities available to you. Being on a campus with three different institutions and an incredibly diverse student body means that you will be able to take full advantage of the wide array of interests to make the most of your student life.

The goal of Your Student Association (Your SA) is to make student life a worthwhile experience. We offer a wide range of programming on campus from massive concerts, to off-campus trips and a speaker series. As well, Your SA manages the expansive club system on campus. With more than 60 student groups to choose from, chances are there will be something that suits your interests. If not, it’s easy to start your own club. Finally, Your SA runs the Campus Recreation Program which includes a wide range of sports.

In addition, Your SA provides an excellent student insurance plan that now includes an extended health component. New services opening up are a Women’s Centre and Food Centre in the Your SA Service Centre and independent food services in the Student Centre.

The vision of Your SA this year is to focus on service and communication. You should be aware of the many exciting events happening on campus. On top of that, you need proper representation and need to know that Your SA is your voice.

Take advantage of the opportunity to get involved, gain experience, and have an amazing student experience. Best of luck in the coming year, it’s going to be great!

Vice-President of Internal and Operations Management

Hey everyone!

My name is Naheed Dosani and I am your vice-president of internal and operations management for the 2007-2008 academic year. I would like to start by welcoming all of our new first-year students and welcoming back all returning students. Our campus has much to offer, both academically and socially and I encourage you to become involved in what is becoming a flourishing campus culture. With a brand new athletic centre ready for use, a blossoming student life with plenty of opportunities available to become a leader on our beautiful campus, I am sure you will find a niche that serves you and enriches your experience during your time here.

In my three years as a student here, I have been involved with the RIOT Radio, UOIT Ambassadors, Students for Humanitarianism & Action through Respect & Education (SHARE), the UOIT Solar Vehicle Team, the Science Society, the Ontario Ismaili Muslim Student Association, the Science Society, Pulse, SA basketball intramurals, the UOIT/DC Diversity Committee & the UOIT Coalition.

Our campus offers a unique and diverse student population and as a member of the 2007 - 2008 Student Association, I am more than honoured to be serving you all. Through increased communication, awareness & accountability, we hope to make this year enjoyable for all.

Feel free to drop by, give me a ring, or fire me off an email with any of your ideas, questions, or concerns. This year will be what we make it!

Vice-President of Campus Life

Oh, hello! I wasn’t expecting you to get through those other bios so quickly!

My name is Eric Dillane and I am your vice-president of campus life this year. In the past, I have been a part of campus life as an executive in SHARE, one of the many clubs we have on campus, which is dedicated to humanitarian and activist efforts. I’ve been the Assistant Captain of the UOIT varsity tennis team.

My job this year is to coordinate the clubs and the campus recreation program as well as set up events and initiatives to make sure your stay at UOIT, Durham College or Trent in Oshawa is both unique and remarkable. In addition to this, I will be using our Street Fleet team of volunteers to get the message out to students about what Your SA is doing for you on campus. Part of campus life is the campus environment, so this year I will be working to increase artwork displays on campus, especially artwork done by students of our institutions.

Campus life is best enjoyed by TAKING PART!! It will become apparent quickly that this is not as easy as it sounds, having classes and homework. However, from three years of experiencing this campus, I have learned the importance of taking pride and part in YOUR school to make it a better place for both yourself and others. Sometimes you can’t do it alone, and that’s why I am here, to help you when you’re inspired to make our campus better.

I will be living on campus this year so find me in residence, the school, the library, or my office and introduce yourself. I’d love to hear your ideas to make our campus a better place.

Vice-President of Durham College

You couldn’t have picked a better place to spend the next year. As the original institution on campus, Durham College has welcomed UOIT and Trent in Oshawa students. Together they have created a vibrant campus life which has flourished over the past four years. It is my plan, along with the rest of Your SA, to make this year amazing and help you attain
greatness.

No student ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him: it is the amount and excellence of what is over and above the required that determines the greatness of ultimate distinction.
- Charles Kendall Adams

As vice-president, I hope to achieve the following:

Short-term goals:
• Actively support and promote Durham College and all of its programs;
• Implement a program involving Durham College alumni to raise awareness of graduates and their successes;
• Introduce a more hands-on approach to informing students of upcoming events;
• Involve and improve community relations and re-establish Durham College’s identity; and
• Improve understanding and encourage involvement in student life by Durham College students.

Long-term goal:
• Continue efforts to make our Whitby campus feel more connected to the Oshawa campus.

I’m approachable and accessible – please call me or e-mail me to let me know what you need to have a more meaningful and interactive campus life.

Vice-President of UOIT

As vice-president of UOIT for Your SA, I am here to uphold the innovative ideals that make the university the most advanced post-secondary facility in the country.

I am looking to improve your quality of life on campus and make your time here an enjoyable and productive experience. I will work for you, listening to all your thoughts and ideas in order to find resolution and fulfillment through propositions and direct action.

I plan to use my outgoing social skills to better the study atmosphere by pushing for increased student space around campus and providing comfortable surroundings that will promote optimal learning environments. In partnering with the other executive members, I will increase support for clubs and sports by improving the management strategies to make it easier for all students to participate in everything that is available on campus.

I understand the financial burdens and stress placed on you while attending university as I am also a student. I plan to use all my resources to find ways to improve the affordability of campus life by looking for reductions in your student costs and/or providing discounts and coupons that provide more options in your daily life.

I want to ensure you that as vice-president of UOIT, I will always be around campus and easy to approach for any concerns or issues that may arise. With all of these qualities and motivations, I will take the opportunity I have been given to truly show you just how much I care about my fellow classmates and let you know that I can represent our school with the utmost respect and passion deserving of our great institution.
