Mission:
The Women’s Centre at Durham College, UOIT, & Trent in Oshawa exist to educate and empower women to create a campus culture that values equity and celebrates the contributions and differences of women in society. The Centre is committed to providing resources and advocacy for the campus community as a whole.
Principles:
- To recognize that social and institutional discrimination against women exists in our society
- To educate and create awareness pertaining to women’s issues
- To work towards equality and social justice
- To promote healthy lifestyles
Objectives:
- Advocate for the removal of barriers that inhibit the full participation of women on campus and in the community; advocate for a climate that promotes social justice, free of all barriers and discrimination;
- Provide a safe, anti-oppressive and welcoming environment in which women and men can come together to share, empower, and learn;
- Operate a resource bank providing gender-specific personal and professional resources
- To develop, raise awareness and manage a fully-functional food bank for everyone on campus;
- Organize educational programs, campaigns, information and referrals about issues that
disproportionately affect women, such as discrimination, sexual harassment, income, housing, relationship violence, rape, and disordered eating.
